"“ Advocacy has always been at the core of who I am” - Elizabeth Barnette"

Throughout my life, I’ve felt a deep calling to champion the underdog and stand up for those who couldn’t fight for themselves. Even as a child on the playground, I often found myself defending classmates from bullies—unaware that those early moments of advocacy were just the beginning of a lifelong pursuit. While studying at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I initially set my sights on a career in medicine, believing it was the best way to serve others. However, during summer internships with local law firms, I felt a shift. My passion for helping people wasn't rooted in science—it was rooted in advocacy. I realized that a law degree would allow me to protect the rights of others in a far more personal and meaningful way, both in and out of the courtroom. After earning my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, I made the decision to pursue my Juris Doctor at Elon University School of Law. Born and raised in Monroe, North Carolina, I knew I wanted to return home after completing my legal education. Today, I practice in the greater Charlotte area, where I’ve built my career—and my family. When I'm not in the courtroom, you’ll often find me with my husband, our two children, and our beloved Labrador Retriever and maybe even along the North Carolina coast. And if it's basketball season, chances are you’ll find me cheering on my Tar Heels from the sidelines—because as passionate as I am about family law and my own family, I’m almost as passionate about Carolina basketball. From the elementary school playground to the courtroom, advocacy has always been at the core of who I am. Since becoming a mother, that instinct to protect others has only grown stronger. Family Law has allowed me to be a fierce advocate for parents and children alike, fighting every day
